Our first classes go to the YMCA for swim lessons on April 13th. Contact your child's teacher if you have questions or can help volunteer.

Our staff is working very hard to help support your child's academics. All teachers are monitoring academic growth and collaborating together in teams to intentionally plan next steps for each student. We are all proud of the progress Emerson students are making! Keep on being about the "Business of Learning!"

"Hoquiam Reads" is a district wide initiative. One way families can support their child's reading habits, skills, fluency is by providing reading opportunities for them. This includes children of all ages. Pre-readers can talk about letters and sounds with a parent and fluent readers can be exposed to many opportunities throughout the day practicing their reading no matter what their skill level. Please encourage their effort and provide literacy opportunities at home whenever possible. The memories of reading with your child are priceless!

Opportunities to get involved at Emerson include talking with your child's teacher about upcoming school/class events, swimming lessons or just helping out in the classroom. Volunteers to help in the classroom will need their background check completed and must schedule ahead of time with the classroom teacher in advance. We appreciate the partnership with families. All students benefit from school and family teamwork!

Keeping you posted,

Principal Winkelman

2) Be sure to send your child dressed for the weather. Please label your child's name on the label of coats. The lost and found at the front office currently has lots of coats right now.
3) Each TK, Kindergarten and first grade class will be going to the YMCA for swimming lessons this year for eight consecutive days. In order to maintain the success of this wonderful opportunity, we need community volunteers such as parents, grandparents, relatives, etc. Different classes will go on different days so please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule any dates you are able to help. The first classes start on April 13th.
4) If you are interested in volunteering at Emerson, please ensure you have the annual background check completed and schedule with the classroom teacher in advance on a day/activity that extra hands are needed. We always appreciate parent partnerships!
5) Please check your child's communication folder each day for other information and to celebrate your child's hard work they bring home every day.
6) Valentines day is on a Saturday this year. Each class will use this as an avenue for teaching how to show kindness through various activities. If you are wanting to help or donate anything to the class, please contact your child's teacher in advance.
