HMS Families: Your student is being given a letter about the CEE survey that is being given in all schools in the school district. Some of the most important data that we have to work with regarding improving our schools and district comes from YOU. The family survey is open until December 2, the student survey will be given in Homeroom at school. Please take a moment to read the attached letter, and if you have a mobile device that has a camera, aim the camera at the QR code and it will take you to the survey. It takes 10-15 minutes. We appreciate your feedback! The letter coming home also has the QR codes.

HMS Parents and Students: Foodball begins Friday! There is literally something every day until Monday, November 12. This is a great opportunity to get involved and do some good for our community. Any little bit helps.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be afternoon conferences from 12:00-3:30 pm. While Monday is a full day of school, students will be released on Tuesday through Friday at 11:20 a.m. If you have not yet returned your conference schedule sheets, please do so as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please call our main office, at 360-538-8220.

HMS Parents and Students: Reminder that Picture Retake day is this Friday, which is also an 11:20 dismissal. Please make sure your student doesn't wear green, as they take the picture in front of a green screen...and then you have an awkward floating head picture.

HMS Parents: A couple of weeks ago a letter went home regarding Comprehensive Sexual Health Education. The units in the letter were not grade qppropriate for Middle School. Please disregard that letter. A new notification will be coming home with more details about the specific lessons and curriculum. If you would like to learn more about the curriculum (The 3 R's) you can visit this site: https://www.3rs.org/about-3rs/ Curriculum materials will be made available for preview by parents next week.

HMS Parents and Students: Week at a Glance for October 23-27. A new musical opportunity for 7th and 8th grade band members, Picture retakes on Friday, and a half day early release on Friday.

HMS Parents and Students: Thursday, at 10:19 a.m. HMS and the rest of the Hoquiam School District will be taking part in The Great Shakeout. This is an annual event to practice our safety procedures in the event of an Earthquake and Tsunami. This year we will be doing a Drop, Cover, and Hold, then practice evacuating the building, and then heading up Spencer Street to the High School Baseball Field that is adjacent to campus. This, again, is a test of our procedures. This event is also a time that as a household you have a talk about what you would all do in the event of an earthquake. Its a good time to check your own supplies, make sure you have a means of lighting, and an evacuation plan to higher ground. There is some good information about earthquake preparedness and response at this site: https://www.shakeout.org/washington/dropcoverholdon/

HMS 7th Grade Band: Holiday Ensemble ("Jingle Jammers") is starting back up this season...under the direction of Ms. Peters (HHS). The group is open to all HS and MS (7th & 8th grade) instrumentalists interested in playing Christmas and Holiday music around our community over the next five weeks. The "KICK OFF GET TOGETHER" is Tuesday, October 24 at HHS in the band room 3pm and/or 6pm. Parents must provide student transportation to and from practices and performances. Goodies provided at most practices and events. Students are expected to attend rehearsals regularly in or to be an ensemble member. A limit of two missed rehearsals is acceptable to remain in the group. More than two absences must be cleared with Ms. Peters. On Tuesdays there are two practices: 3 and 6 pm. Students may attend only one, or both, as long as they have somewhere to go between practices if they choose both. Pickup and Drop off for practices is at the HS Music Building by the Hallway Door. We hope your student gives this a try!

It is data that local agencies use to get information for the types of programs they offer for students and families, so we encourage students to take the survey. It is an anonymous survey.
