Spring Board Units

Unit 1: Number System

In this unit, two essential questions are asked to focus students’ attention. Students answer these questions through the activities in the unit and reinforce / review them again at the end of the unit.

  1. Why is it important to understand properties and operations involving integers and negative rational numbers?

  2. How can number lines and diagrams be used to interpret solutions to real-world problems?

Unit 2: Expressions and Equations

In this unit, two essential questions are asked to focus students’ attention. Students answer these questions through the activities in the unit and reinforce / review them again at the end of the unit.

1. Why is it important to understand how to solve linear equations and inequalities?

2. How can graphs be used to interpret solutions of real-world problems?

Unit 4: Geometry

In this unit, two essential questions are asked to focus students’ attention. Students answer these questions through the activities in the unit and reinforce / review them again at the end of the unit.

1. Why is it important to understand properties of angles and figures to solve problems?

2. Why is it important to be able to relate two dimensional drawings with three-dimensional figures?

Unit 3: Ratio and Proportion

In this unit, two essential questions are asked to focus students’ attention. Students answer these questions through the activities in the unit and reinforce / review them again at the end of the unit.

1. How are ratios, unit rates, and proportions used to describe and solve real-world problems?

2. How can representations, numbers, words, tables, and graphs be used to solve problems?

Unit 5: Probability

In this unit, two essential questions are asked to focus students’ attention. Students answer these questions through the activities in the unit and reinforce / review them again at the end of the unit.

1.  How is probability used to make decisions in everyday situations?

2.  How can a probability be estimated?

Unit 6: Statistics

In this unit, three essential questions are asked to focus students’ attention. Students answer these questions through the activities in the unit and reinforce / review them again at the end of the unit.

1. Why is it important to select at random when choosing a sample from a population?

2. How can sample data be used to learn about a population?

3. How can sample data be used to compare two populations?
