Dear Hoquiam School District Families,

As many of you know, school districts across the region are shifting to remote learning due to COVID cases and staff shortages.  We, as a district, are committed to ensuring that we remain open to serve students in person.  However, we want to communicate early and be as transparent as possible so that staff, families, and students know what to expect should we have to close a building or the district for a short period of time.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are presenting a comprehensive plan for remote learning should the eventuality arise.

  • Chromebooks are ready for distribution to students at all schools. Extra chargers have been allotted to each classroom for instant response should we have to close.

  • Our website is updated with a “Remote Learning” section for every school, containing the schedule, instructions for families, our Zoom links, and other pertinent information.

  • Food distribution will be reinstated. Please watch for updates through the website and emails regarding the specifics of sites and times.

  • Transportation will be provided to pre-identified groups of students in need of on-site support. Our website will be updated with information on closure-specific bus route information.

In the case of a building closure or district closure, we will be offering onsite support to pre-identified groups of students.  If your child is enrolled in one of the following programs, they can access learning on campus at their school (in the event of a building closure) or at the High School campus in the event of a district closure.  Information about the details of accessing this on-site learning will be communicated following announcements of any closures.

Program List:

  • Students enrolled in McKinney Vento

  • Students enrolled in Multilingual Education

  • Students enrolled in Native Education

  • Students with a current 504 Plan, IEP, or Special Education supports/services that are identified as needing direct, in-person instruction.

If you do not know if your child is enrolled in one of these programs or if you have questions about possible services, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

We greatly appreciate your flexibility and tenacity in working with us to keep our district safe, functional, and open to students. The safety of our staff and students will always come first: Please take all necessary precautions to ensure your health and safety should we pivot to remote learning. As a district, we appreciate your continued support as we continue to navigate through the challenges and changes COVID has placed upon us.  We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you in providing the best possible education for your children.

Sincerely,

The Hoquiam School District
