From pageant stage to classroom: Miss Grays Harbor contestant Ellie Graham brought smiles (and dental wisdom!) to Mrs. Byron's 3rd graders! 🦷✨ Our local Hoquiam High grad had kids on the edge of their seats with a fun story about a tooth-brushing moose, shocking sugar reveals in everyday drinks, and expert tips for keeping those pearly whites healthy. Now studying at Grays Harbor College, the future dental hygienist turned oral health education into an adventure these students won't forget. Who knew learning about teeth could be this fun? 🦷🎓 #WeAreHoquiamSD

Emerson Elementary students celebrated National School Counselor Week by creating beautiful cards for their school counselor, Ms. Sturgill. Ms. Sturgill is an important part of Emerson Elementary, and she spends her time helping our students as they meet their challenges. Ms. Sturgill works hard to build a positive school climate by creating groups for students, teaching social-emotional skills, and modeling effective conflict resolution. The WAPT (Washington Association for Pupil Transportation) held its Mid-Winter Conference on February 1st. 🚌 This was a great opportunity for our bus drivers to learn and connect with one another! #WeAreHoquiamSD

HHS FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) took 10 amazing students to the Regional Winter Conference! 🎉 Our team placed in 15 events, including 2 Regional Champions! 🏆👏 8 of our students are advancing to the State FBLA Competition! 🚀🔥 #WeAreHoquiamSD

In Mr. Chávez’s Spanish 1 class, we’ve been learning how to describe ourselves and others using personality traits like inteligente, trabajador/a, and gracioso/a! 🤓💪😂 To bring this to life, students created their very own "Diamond Poems" (Poemas Diamante) to reflect who they are. 💎✍️ Check out their amazing work! 🦅 Classroom Visit from the Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge! Several classrooms at Central had a special guest from the Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge! She taught our students all about the amazing shorebirds that call Grays Harbor home and the different habitats they thrive in. The students had a blast learning how to draw these local shorebirds, paying attention to their unique characteristics and adaptations. It was an awesome learning experience! Students learned all about the symbols of the United States! A huge thank you to the Hoquiam VFW (Jack Roman) and HHS Senior & Eagle Scout, Roman J., for coming in to teach us about proper flag etiquette, how to fold the flag, and how to display it. The students had a blast practicing and learned so much! #WeAreHoquiamSD ❤

We are so proud of these culinary students who prepared and cleaned the facility and prepared the five-course meals for the United Way Black and White Gala 2025. They served approximately 350 guests! It was an incredible evening!🖤🤍 #WeAreHoquiamSD

With the start of the 69th biennial Washington Legislative, Hoquiam Leadership attended a State Conference ensuring Hoquiam is expressing its support for the 'Big 3.' 1. Special Education: Advocate to fully fund districts that serve students with special needs and programming. 2. Pupil Transportation: Ensure that all districts receive adequate funding to provide transportation to students. 3. Materials, Supplies, and Operating Costs (MSOC): Provide additional financial support for skyrocketing costs to operate schools (insurance, heating, cooling, technology, curriculum). #WeAreHoquiamSD

Mrs. Byron's classroom has a runaway gingerbread man! A report straight from the source, "Our mischievous friend has turned into quite the world traveler. Prior to winter break, we received reports of sightings from across the United States, and even as far as Russia! This week, the adventures continued as more letters and postcards arrived describing holiday break sightings throughout the country. The most exciting news came when Ms. Gannaway visited our classroom with special deliveries from Ghana, Africa, where our gingerbread friend was spotted! Our students were thrilled to receive authentic Ghanaian chocolate bars and beautiful bracelets, along with a message from a local resident who briefly encountered our elusive friend before he dashed away once again." This engaging activity has brought geography to life for our students. It's wonderful to see their excitement as they track our gingerbread man's journey around the globe! #WeAreHoquiamSD
